Mets Earn Late Win
|
Wrigley Field was the site of an exciting ballgame between the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs.
The New York Mets locked up a win at Wrigley Field, knocking off the Chicago Cubs, 3-2. On the mound for New York was right-hander Bob Penkwitz. He played a major role in the triumph. Andres Munoz got credit for the win, improving to 2-4. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings.
New York used the timely hitting of Mark Vientos to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mets on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Bob was throwing strikes, locating well," said New York manager Charles Gerardi.
The win has New York at 35-70.
