Nationals Win Nail-Biter
|
The Washington Nationals faced a tough opponent in San Francisco pitcher Ian Villers, but still scratched out a win at Oracle Park by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings. Villers went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Washington reliever Dylan Lee was the winner. His record is now 3-2. The losing pitcher was Gregory Santos. Nathan Webb, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
Derek Curiel came through with a big-time hit for Washington. The center fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Cullen Cooney.
The first-place Nationals, at 64-40, now lead their division by 7½ games.
