Diaz Slugs Yankees to 6-2 Win
|
The 6-2 New York win over Cincinnati was due in large part to Juan Diaz. The Yankees left fielder was 3-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. New York reliever Chris Mercado picked up the win to move to 2-2. Josh Peterson suffered the loss. The Yankees sit in 4th place in the American League East Division with a record of 44-53.
Had Chris Lovegrove not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Lovegrove hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Yankees.
Said losing manager Ahron Cooney: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
