Giants Prevail, 3-2, Over Chicago
|
The San Francisco Giants topped the Chicago White Sox, 3-2, in National League action at Oracle Park. The standout performance belonged to San Francisco pitcher and Madera, California, native Mike Madden. The save went to Joe Boyle, number 14 for him. San Francisco, with the win, climbs to 33-63.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Giants had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when right fielder David Avalos hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Mick Abel and made the score 1-0, Giants. Avalos went 2-4 with 2 singles.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Chicago manager Joey Cora. "But we decided not to take it."
