5-1 Loss to Nationals Extends New York Losing Streak
|
The Washington Nationals downed the New York Mets, 5-1, at Citi Field. Stellar pitching by Robinson Pina had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the NL in strikeouts with 151, handcuffed his opponent all game. Pina, now 9-3, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 11, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Washington has now won 5 straight, while the Mets have lost 8 in a row.
Cam Collier had a big 2-run home run for the Nationals in the top of the sixth inning. With Washington leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Bob Penkwitz and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 13th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Nationals ahead, 4-1.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Collier.
