Jay Allen was a major contributor to the 6-5 St. Louis win over Pittsburgh. The Cardinals right fielder went 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Sandy Alcantara earned the win for St. Louis. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 5-2. Deifran Yriarte picked up his 13th save of the season.

Allen had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 2-1 fastball from Benjamin Abeldt, he banged a grand slam home run to right, giving the Cardinals a 6-3 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Allen.

"We ground out the win," said Allen. "That's all that matters."

The Cardinals lead the National League Central Division by 2 games.
