New York catcher Vincent Perozo had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Perozo went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2, even as Los Angeles beat the Mets, 6-5. Alan Whiteside earned the save for Los Angeles, his 13th. The win puts Los Angeles at 24-38.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Sam Yelton came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Evan Phillips, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Los Angeles on top, 6-5.

In postgame comments to the Los Angeles Gazette, Yelton said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
