Reds Capture Close Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals got a superb performance from pitcher Brock Burke, but the Cincinnati Reds still won the game, 4-3. Burke threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Cincinnati reliever Tommy Knox picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Deifran Yriarte was saddled with the loss. Cincinnati is now 34-25, while St. Louis is 39-19.
Vaughn Neckar came through with a big-time hit for Cincinnati. The first baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
In postgame comments to the Cincinnati Daily, Neckar said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
