7-1 Triumph Runs Blue Jays Streak to 6 Games
|
Roansy Contreras brought his A-game to help Toronto defeat the New York Yankees, 7-1. Contreras, now 9-8, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The third-place Blue Jays have won 6 consecutive games.
Ronny Mauricio had a big solo home run for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Toronto leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old left-handed pitcher Josh Riley and punished it. The result was his 39th home run of the season, which put the Blue Jays on top, 2-0.
"Nice to keep our winning streak intact," said Mauricio.
