Cubs Win at Arizona, 3-2
|
The Chicago Cubs earned a close win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, thanks in part to Huascar Ynoa. The Chicago right-hander, who led the AL in innings pitched with 219.2 in 2028, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Ynoa, the winner, moves to 4-3. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. The save went to Frankie Scalzo, his 15th this season.
Chicago used a clutch at-bat from Austin Riley to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Huascar gave us a huge shot in the arm," said Chicago manager David Ross.
Chicago leads the National League Central Division by 2½ games.
