The Kansas City Royals overcame a pretty good performance by Cleveland first baseman Caleb Tetreault, beating the Guardians, 5-4, at Progressive Field. Tetreault hit 2 home runs. Reliever Jeff Rhode picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Cullen McKay, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2025 draft, took the loss. Jamir Leal recorded his 15th save for Kansas City.

Kansas City used a clutch hit from Jose Vargas to snatch the win. The first baseman belted a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Royals ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was huge.

"We found a way to get it done," Vargas said.

The American League Central Division-leading Royals have a record of 27-18.
