Chicago Beats St. Louis, 5-3
|
The Chicago Cubs topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-3, in National League action at Busch Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Chicago pitcher and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, native Huascar Ynoa. Ynoa picked up the win for Chicago, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 3-1. Frankie Scalzo got credit for the save for Chicago. It was his 13th of the year.
In the bottom of the ninth, Andrew Vaughn stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Cardinals were trailing 5-3, but had runners on 1st and 2nd. That's when Frankie Scalzo made a terrific pitch and Vaughn struck out. Gone was the dream of a St. Louis comeback.
With the victory, the Cubs upped their record to 24-10.
