Sunbirds Move on to Round 2 Friday, September 25th , 2020 The Round 1 didn't live up to the billing from those who thought it would be an all-out battle to the last game. But the Des Moines Sunbirds are no doubt pleased by the results, as they have knocked out the Ft. Lauderdale Threshers 4-2 to advance to the Round 2. "It doesn't matter how you win it, as long as you win it and get yourself moving forward," said Sunbirds left fielder Alexi Amarista. "I know a lot of people thought this was going to be a really tight series the whole way through, but we're glad it didn't go right down to the wire." Des Moines won the final game by a score of 3-1 at Ft. Lauderdale Fields. Amarista was named series MVP after hitting .310 with a .310 on-base percentage. He also had 1 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 6 runs. The Des Moines Sunbirds will play against the Worcester Ivy in the next round. Worcester won their series against the Highland Park Argonauts 4 games to 2. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes. |
