Plantier and Howard Suspended, Out 2 Games
Sunday, August 5th , 2001
Bad blood could be brewing between the Sparks and the Chukars. In yesterday's contest at Ballpark of Fontana, Fontana's Phil Plantier and Halton Hills's Chris Howard caused the benches to empty when they went toe-to-toe against one another. Only Plantier and Howard were ejected by the umpires.
Upon hearing that the two players had been suspended 2 games each by the league office, harsh comments came from both clubhouses.
League officials have warned both organizations about the consequences of premeditated retaliation.
For the season Plantier has hit .278 with 18 home runs and 47 RBIs. He has played in 62 games and scored 50 times.
This year Howard has 7 saves in 23 relief appearances with a 1-1 record and 4.89 ERA.
