Mad Dogs End Rua Streak Sunday, July 8th , 2018 Late in the game, all eyes in Ballpark of Melbourne Beach were on Ryan Rua as he stepped into the batter box. His 26-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Rua, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Rua, it was that his Melbourne Beach Redskins won the game anyway, stopping the Durham Mad Dogs by the score of 10-0. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Rua told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 26 straight games. It's something I will always remember." |
