Big 3-HR Day for Jones
Friday, September 10th , 2055
Jalen Jones of the Sea Dogs won the battle against Altoona pitching, but lost the war. He hit three out of the park at Hadlock Field, got his name in the league record book, but Portland came up short in the win column, losing to the Curve, 6-4. The Portland third baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploded off his bat all day long.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said. "I try to go out there and have good at-bats. If I put a good swing on the ball, then it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one. I just try to have good at-bats."
For the game, the 25-year old third baseman Jones went 4 for 5 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Where does he rank this day in his career? "It's up there," Jones said. "I'll put it up there in the upper echelon, despite the loss."
Jalen Jones hit a two-run home run off Rod Renteria in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Rod Renteria in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Ryan McMillan in the 9th.
This season, Jones has banged out 62 hits in 197 at-bats for a .315 average with 14 home runs. He is getting on base at a .343 pace and his totals also include 36 RBIs and 28 runs scored.
