Getting offensive support from Art Brandon, the Chicago Cubs topped the San Diego Padres, 7-5. Brandon went 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Cubs. The win went to Mike Brooks in relief, making him now 1-0. Phil Jordan took the loss for San Diego. Picking up the save was 23-year old left-handed pitcher Israel Trujillo.

Brandon had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 0-2 splitter from Phil Jordan, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Cubs a 5-3 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Brandon.

"We scored enough runs to win," said Brandon.

With the win, Chicago climbs to 16-12.
