The New York Yankees got a marvelous performance from pitcher Ricky Mendez. The right-hander kept the Philadelphia offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 6-2 New York victory at Yankee Stadium. Mendez got the win, improving to 4-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 0 over 5.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. Chris Muench earned the save for New York, his 3rd.

New York took a 6-2 lead on Mario Altamirano's 5th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Altamirano hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Philadelphia pitcher Vinny Yzaguirre visibly frustrated.

Afterward, Philadelphia manager Chris Berry said: "We've hit a rough patch."

With the win, New York is 19-10.
