Jumbo Shrimp Defeated, 10-6, After Tennessee Rallies
|
The Tennessee Smokies cut down the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp by the score of 10-6 in 11 innings. Much of the credit went to shortstop Jerry Lawless. Lawless went 5-6 with a home run and 4 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the Smokies. Eric Wilkey, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-2. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. The Smokies improved their record to 26-23 by beating Jacksonville.
Tennessee used the timely hitting of Alex LeMay to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Smokies on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"That's what these guys do," said Smokies manager . "They battle, they fight."
