The Birmingham Barons got a strong performance from pitcher Jim Morrell, who stymied the Arkansas offense en route to a win, 7-2, at Regions Field. In 8 innings, Morrell surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 5. He allowed no runs. With the win, Birmingham upped its record to 16-14.
The Barons had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 7-2, Birmingham, with one out. Arkansas, with the bases loaded, was mounting a threat. Andy Jacobs dug in at the plate, but on a 0-1 sinker, he popped out.
