Smokies Net 8-3 Win Over Blue Wahoos
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Tennessee Smokies and Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
The Tennessee Smokies knocked off the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, 8-3, at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Kevin Hawks was a big reason Tennessee won. The third baseman went 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Cris Navarrete was the winner. Over 5.2 innings, he yielded 3 runs on 4 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Jim Perkins recorded the save for Tennessee, his 1st of the season.
One pivotal at-bat came with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Pensacola trailing 4-1, Cris Navarrete needed to bear down against Milt Driver. Navarrete won the battle, as Driver hit into a double play and the Smokies went on to win.
The Blue Wahoos fall to 5-11 and continue their lackluster start in 2059.
