Yankees Beaten, 3-1, by Detroit
|
Soggy conditions did not keep Detroit and New York from playing their scheduled game.
In a tight tilt between Detroit and New York, pitcher Robby Ramirez was a key contributor. The left-hander earned accolades for his standout performance in the 3-1 Tigers win. The winner was Ramirez. He threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Ricky Mendez. Jim Kerr recorded the save for Detroit, his 6th of the season.
Dan Naab, who leads the AL in triples with 2, took New York hurler Ricky Mendez deep in the bottom of the fifth. His 2-run home run put the Tigers on top, 3-1. In all, Naab had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
Naab called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
The Yankees fall to 8-11 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2060 season.
