Astros Get Past Detroit for 4-3 Win
|
The home squad pulled out a thrilling walk-off win.
The Houston Astros knocked off the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, at Minute Maid Park. Jimmy Mellion hit 4 singles and 1 double, while driving in 2 runs. Houston pitcher Pat Bartsch earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Kevin Fleming suffered the loss.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Mellion hit a fastball from Kevin Fleming for a run-scoring single. The Astros, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
After the game, Houston manager Ron Astros GM applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The Tigers, now 4-10, continue their poor start.
