Boston first baseman David Alarcon was sensational. He went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 4 times. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Chicago beat the Red Sox, 9-8. Chicago pitcher Melvin Gomez earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Josh Shultz suffered the loss. Chicago is now 3-1.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Steve McGovern barreled up a fastball from Sal Robles. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the White Sox in front, 9-4.

"We found a way to get it done," McGovern said.
