Alexis Lopez, who is tied for 6th in the EL in strikeouts with 65, pitched well, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies still fell short, losing, 3-1, to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. C.J. Hoeth notched his 34th save in 37 chances. The Rumble Ponies, at 52-75, have lost 7 in a row.
The Rumble Ponies had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Fisher Cats going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old third baseman Ernie Groves came to the plate. Groves hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch slider from Binghamton hurler Alexis Lopez. It was Groves's 4th double of the year.
"Everyone's kind of edgy right now," said losing manager , "but nothing a couple of wins wouldn't cure."
