Flying Squirrels Nudge Past RubberDucks, 1-0
|
Richmond turned a good effort from starter Chris McCain into a win over the Akron RubberDucks at Canal Park. The Flying Squirrels won the game, 1-0. Reliever Jayden Harper picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Jonathan Koester, who leads the EL in holds with 14, took the loss. Picking up his 30th save was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Eddie Collett.
Richmond used the timely hitting of Mike Hedges to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Flying Squirrels on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"When I go out there," said McCain, "the last thing I want to do is let my teammates down."
The third-place Flying Squirrels improved to 66-62.
