de Leon Hits 3 home runs in Flying Squirrels Win
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels beat the Trenton Thunder, 9-6, at Arm & Hammer Park. Richmond designated hitter David de Leon led the way. He hit 3 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored three times. Richmond reliever Frank Arguinzoni picked up the win, raising his record to 1-2. Armin Schoeeser was tagged with the loss. Mike Newberg got the save, his 17th in 19 chances.
Richmond used the timely hitting of Mike Hedges to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Flying Squirrels on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We maximized our offense today," said Richmond skipper . "That makes everyone's life easier."
With the win, Richmond pushed its record to 61-61.
