Starting pitcher Jimmy Meyer gave the Richmond Flying Squirrels a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Altoona Curve, 2-1, at The Diamond. Eddie Collett earned the save for Richmond, his 27th. The win puts Richmond at 60-60 this season.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Flying Squirrels had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when right fielder Randy Davis hit a 2-run single. The single came off Frank Jones and made the score 2-1, Flying Squirrels. Davis went 1 for 3 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
In postgame remarks, Davis applauded his team's "resolve."
