Flying Squirrels Get Better of Fightin Phils, 5-2
|
Boosted by the 3-hit performance of Jon Barahona, who is tied for 10th in the EL in triples with 2, the Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Reading Fightin Phils, 5-2. Danny Mendez closed the game out for Richmond, earning his 16th save. Richmond is now 47-57, while Reading is 57-47.
Richmond right fielder Josue Blanco contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 50th hit of the season and put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 4-2.
"I thought we played a nice game," Blanco told the Richmond News. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
