Rumble Ponies Drop Another One, 6-1
|
The Erie SeaWolves stifled the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 6-1, at UPMC Park. Mike Rice had his hitting cap on. He went 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for Erie. Picking up the win was Vinny Valdes. He went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits. The right--hander struck out 4 and walked 0. With the victory, the SeaWolves record stands at 42-50.
Tied up with the Rumble Ponies in the bottom of the fifth inning, the SeaWolves got a boost from center fielder Manny Aguilar. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Aguilar saw a full count fastball from Dan England and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Erie on top, 2-1.
"Good pitching stops good hitting," said Rice. "And vice-versa."
