With 5-2 Win, Nationals Go to 86-67
|
Behind the hitting of Chris Blanton, the Washington Nationals stopped the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-2. Blanton went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs for the Nationals. Washington has a record of 86-67, placing them second in the National League East Division.
Andy Flerlage had a big 2-run home run for the Nationals in the top of the third inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a sinker from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Danny Hamlette and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Nationals on top, 3-0.
After the game, Washington manager Deran Sanchez applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
