Seattle beat Boston at Fenway Park, eking out a 6-5 win. The win was due in large part to left fielder Chris Slater. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win went to Kevin Gilpatrick in relief. His record improves to 8-5. C.J. Lee took the loss. The Mariners are now 73-76.

Vince Polta came through with a big-time hit for Seattle. The second baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 6-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Slater.
