Red Sox Sink Mariners, 3-1
|
Boston Red Sox starter Josh Shultz turned in an exceptional performance against the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park, resulting in a Boston win, 3-1. Shultz, the winner, moves to 4-3. He threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 4 walks. Manny Meza finished to wrap up his 12th save.
The Red Sox got a big hit from shortstop Jon Nations. Facing Seattle pitcher Sam Coleman in the bottom of the sixth, Nations pounded a solo home run to right. His 10th home run of the season put the Red Sox ahead, 3-1.
"Tough loss," said Seattle manager Joel Mariners. "But that's how the cookie crumbles."
Boston goes to 77-69, Seattle to 71-75.
