Philadelphia Earns 2-1 Win
|
Starting pitcher Jamari Hill had a solid game. He was a big reason the Philadelphia Phillies throttled the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1. The winner was Hill. He threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Steve Bassett. Philadelphia has won 3 straight, while St. Louis has lost 5 in a row.
Had Jeremy Hines not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Hines hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Phillies.
"Jamari was pounding the zone," said Philadelphia manager Chris Berry.
