Cardinals Suffer 8-6 Setback
The Pittsburgh Pirates weathered an outstanding game by St. Louis center fielder Joe Herrera to topple the Cardinals, 8-6. Herrera went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Mike Hedlin picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 5-4. Randy Rijos suffered the loss. Josue Gallegos got credit for the save for Pittsburgh. It was his 8th of the year.

Pittsburgh used a timely hit from Tim Campbell to get the win. The third baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 8-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.

"There's ebbs and flows in the season and right now we're just looking to finish strong," said Campbell.

The Pirates lead the National League Central Division by 17½ games.
