Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Nationals Park.

Victor Mandoza did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to spare the Washington Nationals an extra-inning, 7-6 loss to the New York Mets at Nationals Park. Mandoza went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. New York reliever Jim Canfield picked up the win, upping his record to 7-3. Ricky Frankel took the loss. Jake Southerland collected his 6th save.

Phil Mael came through with a big-time hit for New York. The second baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the 13th inning to give his team the lead, 7-6. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Kenneth Rosario.

New York is now 58-73, Washington 63-69.
