Washington Beats Philadelphia, 5-3
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals get after it.
The Washington Nationals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-3, in National League action at Nationals Park. Washington pitcher Micah Koller had a standout performance. Koller picked up the win for Washington, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 3-3. Andy Bonsack was called on to finish, recording his 11th save.
The Phillies had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Nationals going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old shortstop Josh Tomaro came to the plate. Tomaro hit a grand slam home run on a 0-1 fastball from Philadelphia hurler Josh Kehoe. It was Tomaro's 2nd home run of the year.
"Micah showed what he's made of," said Washington manager Deran Sanchez.
Washington is now 72-59, Philadelphia 62-68.
