Sid Harris could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Texas Rangers lost, dropping a 2-0 decision to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Mat Kirkland, now 5-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. Mario Ortega finished to wrap up his 4th save.

J.D. Balkum's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth was significant, coming with a runner on 2nd and the game tied, 0-0. The New York designated hitter hit a run-scoring single off Sid Harris to put the Yankees up.

"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Balkum told the New York Herald. "But we take nothing for granted."

New York goes to 74-53, Texas to 62-64.
