Render Helps Pirates Beat Padres, 12-6
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates stormed past the San Diego Padres, 12-6, at PNC Park. Pittsburgh designated hitterJamie Render , who is tied for 4th in the NL in hits with 121, led the hit parade. He was 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Pittsburgh has now reeled off 7 straight wins.
The Padres had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Pirates going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old catcher Melvin Uribe came to the plate. Uribe hit a bases-clearing double on a 2-1 slider from San Diego hurler Jimmy Rizzo. It was Uribe's 15th double of the year.
"Like I've always said, I'm the straw that stirs the drink," Render said (again).
