Astros Defeated, 6-4, After Detroit Rallies
|
Tigers first baseman Belay Gyasi left his mark on his team's 6-4 win over the Houston Astros. Gyasi, who finished 4th in the AL in hits with 175 last year, was 2-3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 runs for Detroit in the contest. Mike Wachholz, 5-5, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The Tigers, at 51-62, sit in third place in the American League Central Division.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Tony Rodriquez to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Tigers on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Detroit manager Fraser Stewart called it "a darn good win."
