Blue Jays Score Late, Stun Yankees, 6-5
|
Eric Castillo was a major factor in the 6-5 Toronto win over New York. The Blue Jays shortstop went 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Chris Vander Meer was the winner in relief. His record is now 4-0. The losing pitcher was Chris Muench. The second-place Yankees dropped to 53-46.
Had Greg Keel not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Keel hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Blue Jays.
"I play this game for myself and my family, but of course it's always nice when we can win," said Castillo.
