Houston pitcher Juan Quintanilla gave the Angels all they could handle, but in the end, Los Angeles left Minute Maid Park with a win, 2-1. Quintanilla allowed 1 run on 2 hits over 8 innings. Brad Holmes got credit for the win, improving to 4-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. The Angels sit in first place in the American League West Division with a record of 65-33.

Kevin McMahon came through with a big-time hit for Los Angeles. The first baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
