Critical Game 5 Goes to Host Yankees, 2-1
|
The New York Yankees moved to within one game of the League Championship Series, downing the visiting Carolina Stingrays at Yankee Stadium by a score of 2-1. Yankees right-hander Josh Garner had a strong outing in which he threw 5.2 innings allowing 1 run. The win gives the Yankees a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 Division Series.
Chris Croft hit a 2-run triple off Steve Allen in the bottom of the sixth, which put the Yankees in front, 2-1. Croft had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said New York manager Robin Hawkins.
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday at The Nucor Dome in St. Petersburg.
