Reds Take Nail-Biter Over Giants
|
The Cincinnati Reds needed 12 innings to defeat the San Francisco Giants, 5-3, at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati designated hitter Sean Ries had a superb performance. He threw 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball. Cincinnati pitcher Steve Daniel got the win. He's now 3-3. Oscar Arana was tagged with the loss. The last-place Reds are now 42-55, the Giants 40-57.
The decisive blow was delivered by Andy Wheat in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a 2-run home run off 35-year old right-handed pitcher Oscar Arana to win the game for Cincinnati. The home crowd went nuts.
"This wasn't a good win," said Wheat. "It was a great win."
