Killer Whales Prevail, as First Stage Goes to the Wire
South Africa Baseball pundits who figured the First Stage between the Soweto Killer Whales and Brakpan Blue Wings would go the distance were right on the mark.

The two teams battled back and forth in a spirited series, with Soweto coming out on top thanks to a 1-0 win in the deciding game at Killer Whales Stadium, to wrap things up 2-1.

"You get to the last game and anything can happen, so we're overjoyed to come out on top," said Killer Whales first baseman Yaw Atria, who was named series MVP.

For the series, Atria had 3 hits for a .375 average. He had 1 home runs, 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.

The Soweto Killer Whales will play against the Johannesburg Pipers in the next round. Johannesburg had a bye in the First Stage. The Final Stage schedule will be announced after the First Stage finishes.
