South Bend Pins 7-6 Loss on Asheville
|
A big day at the plate from center fielder Jared Baldoni was not enough to keep the South Bend Cubs from extending their lead in the Round 2. The Cubs topped Baldoni and the Asheville Tourists, 7-6, at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium in Game 2, and now hold a 2-0 edge in the best-of-7 series. Baldoni was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once in the loss.
Jared Giovannetti aided the South Bend cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the shortstop was 1-3 with a walk.
"Every team in baseball loses," Tourists manager said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at McCormick Field in Asheville.
