Pat Thornton led the charge as the Texas Rangers defeated the Detroit Tigers, 8-5, in 10 innings at Comerica Park. Thornton, who finished 3rd in the NL in batting average with .310 in 2055, went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. Detroit has now lost 4 straight.

David Baines came through with a big-time hit for Texas. The shortstop smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 7-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
