Padres Beat Rangers, 4-2

The San Diego Padres bested the Texas Rangers, 4-2, at Gwynn Field. Jake Margaritis was one of the standouts. He was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Picking up the win was Oscar Newhall. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 7 and walked 2. Picking up the save was 26-year old right-handed pitcher Phil Jordan.
Margaritis contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for San Diego in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Margaritis took a sinker from Andy Nazarian and stroked the home run to left. His 18th home run of the season allowed the Padres to leap in front, 3-2.
Margaritis attributed the win to his team's "collective resolve."
San Diego, now 47-42, holds down second place in the National League West Division.
