Peoria Chiefs starter Ricky DiNardo hurled his team past the Dayton Dragons, 4-2. DiNardo, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 3 walks. Chance Sample earned the save, his 7th.
Tied up with the Dragons in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Chiefs got a boost from left fielder Alex Cabral. With the bases loaded, Cabral saw a 2-1 fastball from Nate Harris and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Peoria on top, 1-0.
"Ricky -- I just love the competitor in him," said Chiefs manager .
Peoria is now 37-57, Dayton 39-55.
