Big Day for Perry as Cubs Down Brewers, 7-4
|
With first baseman Evan Perry leading the charge, the Chicago Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-4, at Miller Park. Perry, who finished 4th in the NL in stolen bases with 50 last year, was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Jonathan Brown picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 3 hits, while walking 6 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 5-4. Earning the save was Sam Hatfield. He's now cashed in 14 of 14 save opportunities.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 24-year old third baseman Steve McKendrick. McKendrick had a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cubs ahead, 5-4. For the game, McKendrick had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Perry.
With the win, Chicago has a record of 40-36. Milwaukee falls to 36-41.
